Author Steffany Martin is here! :)

Heartless’ has been writing stories almost her entire life. She loves to write and also read fantasy stories. When not writing she will be playing with her five cats, gaming, or creating various arts and crafts. She currently lives in Columbus,OH USA.

Thanks for being with us today Miss Steffany! Can you tell us…when did you start writing?

I’d say I’ve been writing since third grade. If I wasn’t writing stories down I always had at least a dozen that I would be constantly making up in my mind. By my late teen years I was very dedicated to writing stories that I actually wanted to make into books.

3rd grade, wow! So, can you tell us more about your latest book?

My latest book is Cella, A Tale of Cinderella (book 1 in Fairy Tales Retold). It is the story of Cinderella but told my way.

I do love a good fairy tale. Tell us about your main characters, are they people you would be friends with in real life?

The main characters are, of course, Cinderella, and also Prince Royal and the pirate Starling. Cinderella is who the story revolves around. She’s a really sweet, kind girl. She is loved by everyone except for those who are jealous of her and the queen – but that is because of petty reasons. She’s hardworking and honest and really can’t understand how so many bad things can happen in her life. Prince Royal is rather free-spirited. He loves sailing the oceans and would spend all of his time on a boat if his parents would allow it. They want him to remain at home and finally decide to force him to marry, thinking that it would make him finally settle down and start to take on the duties of a prince. Starling is the first mate on the pirate ship that Cinderella gets captured by after her banishment from the kingdom. He doesn’t really behave as all of the other pirates do. That is mostly because the captain raised him properly, making sure that he had a very good education. He is very caring of others, though he does prefer to be alone. Regardless, he is the best pirate on the ship with no one being able to best him in a fight. I would be friends with any of my characters. In many ways they already seem like my friends with how much time I spend in creating them.

Sounds very fascinating! Can you share with us where the inspiration behind your writing comes from?

Inspiration comes in many forms for me; from the people in my life, my pets, books/movies, and music. I find music though to probably be the most inspirational.

I agree. I could not write without my music. What has been the most rewarding part of your writing journey so far?

The satisfaction I get when I complete a story and hearing how much people like my books when they read them.

Have you ever thought if your book became a movie, what the opening song would be?

That’s tough.

So what are your top five favorite books?

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien is unparalleled and is hands down my favorite book. There’s so many others that I like so it is very hard to narrow it down, but I suppose the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, The Scarlet Pimpernel series by Baroness Orczy, The Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, and The Myst Trilogy by Rand and Robin Miller. Though that is technically more than five books you really can’t read one without reading all the others.

We have some of the same favorites! I do love my C.S. Lewis. Steffany, do you have any advice for budding writers?

Write what about what you have the most interest in. If you try to write what is “popular” or just something that isn’t really appealing to you, your readers are going to be able to tell. Writing should be fun and the end product should make you proud. Most importantly don’t be offended by constructive criticism, if you take the advice it will only make you a better writer.

Great advice Steffany, thank you! What can we expect to see from you in the future and where can we find your work?

I am currently working on the second book in Fairy Tales Retold which will be Rain and Snow, A Tale of Snow White. And my next fantasy novel is Albino Demon. My books are available on amazon for the kindle or in paperback. Though I will be making them available for the nook shortly.

Before we hit our lightening round…a fun question has to be thrown your way! If you could choose any Author, living or dead, to read your book, who would you choose and why?

I would have to pick J.R.R. Tolkien. I have never been able to find another author that comes close to being as great as he was. His work is amazing. I wish I had a fraction of the imagination and skill he possessed to create such masterpieces. I would have loved to be able to get his comments on the things that I write.

Excellent choice, Steffany…now hold on tight, it’s time for our Rapid-Fire Questions!

Chocolate or Wine? Chocolate. I’ve actually never yet tried wine so it could possibly replace chocolate. I’m not really that much of a chocoholic.

eReader or Paperback? A year ago I would have said paperback, but now I would probably pick ereader. If I like the book enough I will get it in paperback/hardback though.

Shower or Bath? Shower. I like to spend as little time as possible in the bathroom.

Bra or No Bra? Bra.

Beach or Pool? Pool, if it’s private. But I’ve actually never been to the beach so perhaps I would like it better, though I prefer seclusion.

Heels or Flats? Flats. The flatter the better, my feet revolt when put in heels.

Sweet or Sour? I think I have to go with sweet even though I love sour.

A Partner That Does Laundry or A Partner That Gives Massages? Why not both? Probably laundry though because that is my least favorite thing to do.

Thanks for joining us today, Steffany! You can find Steffany on Facebook and Amazon or follow her Blog.

Welcome Miss Shiralyn Lee!

We have a special treat this Thursday! Author Shiralyn Lee is here for an Interview! So get out your coffee, tea, or wine glass…and relax while you get lost in the world of Miss Shiralyn for a few minutes. 🙂

Let’s start with a little Author Bio!

“Born in England I emigrated to Canada with my wife in 2007. This is where my first novel was created. I began writing a lesbian romantic comedy with a light erotic base but then I created a drama with a slightly stronger sexual content.
Over time my work has changed route and I have venured into the darker side of writing about sex. I have decided to move away from the mainstream erotic stories and now focus on BDSM and explicit sexual senerios. If my work doesn’t state BDSM it isn’t going to be too far from kink and I’ve also included a strong use of bad language as this gives the story a sense of reality.
My main priority is to produce works for like minded lesbians who just love to read in the catagory that I produce as this is one genre that I find has limited choices.
With some of my work I have included a romantic situation but anyone who is an avid reader of my books will know that there will always be sex and that I’m not afraid to use strong descriptive words to go along with the scene.”

Thank you so much for being here with us today, Shiralyn!

Thank you for having me Trish…

It’s a pleasure to speak with you! Please tell us a bit about your latest book.

Well I am currently working on re-releasing my first book…Loving the Pink Kiss. My publishing contract ends August 31st so I have decided that all of my other e-books are steadily getting out there now, so I’d like my baby to join them. It will be released on September 9th. It is mostly based on myself and my wonderful wife Janice. We met in England, she is Canadian and we just connected immediately. We now live in Canada and this is where the book idea came from. It’s about an immigration scam and Sarah has drunkenly agreed to help a complete stranger out who is in desperate need to stay in the country. She hasn’t even met this person…Robbie, yet. They first meet at the registry office moments before they take their vows. This is where Sarah is faced with her own dilemma. Robbie is a woman! Sarah was oblivious to this information but the story unravels as she decides that this womans future is entirely in her hands.

Sounds like an interesting plot, with a different twist. Can you share with us what the inspiration behind your writing comes from?

I take my inspiration from all walks of life. The urge to do it in the first place was because there was nothing on TV. My entire world of lesbian connection was missing from the screen. So my wife Janice challenged me to write my own and so I did. I now write down all of my thoughts, anything that has happened to me or anyone I know so that I could turn these into fiction. My boss is a real funny person in life and it just comes naturally to her and I use her as a character in, She’s on the Ball. She is Bridgette just in case you were wondering.

That’s great advice…jotting everything down. So, tell us about your writing process, do you have a daily writing routine?

I write whenever I can. I work full time and have to travel to get there so my writing time is limited. But having 2 days off a week I find that I am tapping those keyboards at a pace so much faster than my mind can handle.

That’s a busy schedule, for sure! Mind if I ask…what are your top five favorite books?

Lord of the Rings has and will always be my favourite. But I love so many that it is getting hard to choose. Anything Sophie Kinsella (Yes I know…I write lesbian erotica/BDSM and I like to read fluffy girlie books… Sooo busted) I also like Macho Sluts by Pat Califia which is more to my scale of writing.

That’s an amazing range: J.R.R. Tolkien to Sophie Kinsella! So, if you could pick any Author, living or dead, to read your book, who would you choose and why?

Suzie Bright! She is an author and teacher of erotic writing. She is local to me as well and I have taken so many notes from her when she states…”If you have an erotic scene that there is only one word you could possibly use to get the message across, then use it!” It’s a naughty word that I shant print here.

LOL and I bet I have an idea of what it is! Have you always wanted to be a writer?

I think I have now that I look back through the years. I’ve written stories on small snippets of paper, I’ve told stories to my friends and family and they’ve always said you should write this down. It was in me but I just didn’t know what to do with it. But now I do and I have many fans in my genre who appreciate what I write so I must be doing a good job.

If you woke up rich tomorrow, what would be the first thing you did?

Buy my daughter a nice home. She deserves it. I would spoil all of those who have helped and stood by me. Being rich to me isn’t just about the money it’s about who and what you are. I feel rich already having met such a wonderful person to share my life with. This being the case the first thing that I would do is make the coffee. 🙂

How sweet! Hopefully one day soon you can buy that house. 🙂 Though money doesn’t buy happiness, it sure doesn’t hurt! But with that said…writing is a competitive industry, do you have any advice for budding authors?

As I myself have learned the hard way, don’t rush your work to get it published. Edit the hell out of it until you know every word from cover to cover without having to read it. Get friends to check for any errors, join forums and gain as much knowledge as you can before you publish. Connect with like minded authors and listen, always listen to the experienced before you think you know it all. Every day I learn something new.

Fantastic advice, Shiralyn! What can we expect to see from you in the future and where can we find your work?

I am published on Amazon and Smashwords and soon Barnes and Noble and a few other sites. I am currently working on a lesbian detective/mystery compilation, called Lesbian in Question. I have several books out, some are based on romantic drama and others are the darker side and focus on BDSM. We all have a kinky side, be it about kissing or about something deeper. I use those thoughts and create for my audience. There’s a little something for everyone.

Sounds great! Can’t wait to see the new material! So, just for fun…if you could choose three people, living or dead, to share a meal with, who would you choose and why?

My father would be my first choice. We hadn’t spoken for several years because of my lifestyle but a week before he died we actually put our differences aside. He was my hero all of my life and I’d like to tell him that to his face which is something that I was unable to do.

My second choice would be my wife. She has been a rock to me and put up with my silence and my frustration. She inspires me and looks after me whilst I’m writing.

My third choice would be Brittany Murphy. She was one of my favourite actresses. I would just like to sit her down at a table and tell her that drugs are NOT the answer.

Moving choices. Your family is lucky to have you! If you could choose any fictional character to spend a day with, who would you choose and why?

Lisbeth, from The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. She is unique and mysterious. She shows no emotion and yet is filled with emotional turmoil. She is strong and can fight anything that is thrown at her and yet she is the victim and powerless when it comes to being blackmailed. But she is brilliant at getting her revenge.

I love Lisbeth! That would be a fantastic day. Though she would scare the crap out of me, it would be a day to remember forever! 🙂

Okay, strap yourself in, Shiralyn! It’s time for our Rapid-Fire Questions!

Wine or Chocolate? Chocolate

Cats or Dogs? Cats

Tent or Hotel? Hotel

Beach or Pool? Beach

Shoes or Bare Feet? Bare feet

eReader or Paperback? eReader

A Partner That Does Laundry or a Partner That Gives Massages? Laundry

Bra or No Bra? No Bra

Thank you for the interview Trish, it’s been a pleasure doing this.

This sassy romantic lesbian comedy revolves around 32 year old Sarah Niles, a woman who loves her single life. After going ahead with this dishonest scheme, Sarah is introduced to a new life with Robbie as they live together and quickly fall in love. But life isn’t as simple or as easy going as it should be when Jen, Robbie’s ex girlfriend, stirs up trouble and manages to seduce Sarah. — Shiralyn J. Lee: “I am a true romantic at heart and a strong believer in love at first sight. I now live in Canada after meeting my wonderful Canadian wife, Janice.”

Today is all about…FIN

So, I admit, I did a little extra cleaning around the house before Fin stopped by and now that he’s lounging on my couch, in his ridiculously tight shirt and even tighter jeans, I’m very glad that I wiped the cat hair and cookie crumbs off the sofa cushions. He’s already nursing one of the frosted bottles of beer I filled the fridge with…just for this occasion.

Good evening, Fin. Would you like another beer?

I sure would, thanks. (I grab one from the fridge and hand it over…receiving a smile as gratitude)

So, Fin…I really appreciate you being here today for a chat. I know things have been pretty busy in your world.

Ha! That’s an understatement.

(Laughter) I suppose that’s true. What has been going on in your life lately?

Well, I met this gorgeous woman. But of course she’s not available. Which is funny, because there’s only a few of us left in the world.

Ah, you must be talking about Riley?

You know I am. (Fin winks)

What is it about this woman who has the men in her life all riled up?

(Fin pauses to look out the living room window, tugs at his thin white t-shirt and readjusts himself on the couch before answering) I don’t know. There’s just something about her…something you want to have close to you, you know?

And the fact that she seems to be happy with Connor…how badly does this bother you?

A lot. (laughter) Nah, I mean, Connor’s a good guy. A bit clueless sometimes, I think. But he’s good to her. She should have a good guy.

And you aren’t a ‘good guy’?

I’ve been known to be bad at times. (laughter)

Hmm. That sounds interesting. Do elaborate.

If I did, we’d be here all day.

Fin, I think you’re a tease, you know that?

Only with the ladies, only with the ladies.

Okay, before we stray too far, I have to ask you about something serious: Star Wars or Star Trek?

(Laughter) Is there a way to answer this question without upsetting someone?

Probably not. But I promise to remain neutral.

Okay then…Star Trek.

Really? (Laughter) That was unexpected. You seem more of the Han Solo type.

Kirk has a bigger ship.

And that’s what’s important to you…having a bigger ship?

I have a bigger…everything.

(Trying desperately not to blush…I quickly change the subject) Okay Fin. I want to know where you see yourself in five years?

Can we start with five days? In post-apocalyptic time, each year is like ten years.

Okay then…where do you see yourself in five days?

Um. A very small part of me hopes things don’t work out with Connor and Riley, so I can come in and swoop her off her feet. I don’t see that happening in the next week, though. I guess it would be nice if more people showed up at our little haven…shook things up a bit. I’m ready for some excitement. And maybe a Reeses Pieces peanut butter cup…one of those giant ones, you know? I miss those. A lot.

So…you want the girl…and you want chocolate? Sounds like a happy ending to me.

Who doesn’t want a happy ending?

Author Interview with Mark Eyre! :D

Mark Eyre currently works in the Middle East. He enjoys running (slowly), playing guitar (badly) and listening to the music of The Smiths (almost constantly).

His first novel, Burnfield, is available on Amazon and he has also written an IGCSE CIE First Language English study guide published by Zig Zag Education.

His novel, Tabnit Gisgo, Volume 1 of The Gisgo Memoirs, is also available on Amazon in e-book and paperback format

He is also the author of The Brantholme Years Series, a humourous trilogy set during the 1970s: Fighting Talk, Phoney War, Action Stations

It’s an honor to have you here with us today, Mark! Can you tell us more about your latest book?

I published Tabnit Gisgo in April 2012. It’s historical fiction, a genre I really like to read as well as write, and it’s a humourous account of a spy and his adventures set at the time of Alexander the Great. He becomes embroiled in the power politics of the period immediately following Alexander’s death and I plan to make it a series-there’s enough skullduggery, treachery and betrayal for several books.

That sounds amazing, and fun! Tell us about your main characters, are they people you would be friends with in real life?

Tabnit isn’t someone I’d particularly like to meet in real life, no! He’s completely amoral, a liar, a cheat, venal and he sell his own mother if he thought there’d be some profit in it. However, I do think he’d be very good company- as long as you didn’t trust him an inch.

Okay, lol…so use caution with Tabnit, got it. Where does the inspiration behind your writing come from?

I suppose a lot of my inspiration comes from reading- trying to craft a piece that people will enjoy for the story, the characters and the sense of place. I’ve always been interested in history and horror. My first novel, Burnfield, is I suppose a mixture of these 2 genres and basically I write what I like to read.

When did you decide to write your first book?

I wrote my first novel about 11 years ago.

That’s amazing, hopefully it’s been a fun decade for you! So, I know you’ve done some traveling in your life, is there a place that you would love to return to?

I lived in Singapore for 3 years and I’d love to go back there. South East Asia is a lovely place and the city itself is very vibrant and exciting. A lot of people criticize Singapore for being a bit staid and boring but it’s really not like that at all. My idea of a great evening out is to be sat in Harry’s Bar on Boat Quay, drinking a pint of Guinness and watching the world go by.

Ahh…that does sound like a great evening! 🙂  I ask all my writer friends this question, simply because I love to read the answers! If you could make one of your characters real for a day, who would you choose and why?

I suppose it would have to be Tabnit Gisgo. Of course I have an idea in my mind of what he looks like but to see him in the flesh would be an experience!

So when you aren’t hanging out with Tabnit, what do you like to do when you aren’t writing?

I run to try and keep fit- well actually runnng is a bit of a misnomer- I jog-very slowly. I also play the guitar or at least I try to! I’m no Johnny Marr but then who is?

I like your version of running. I have a smiliar definition of the word. LOL Do you have any advice for budding writers?

Write every day, read every day.

Well said. What can we expect to see from you in the future and where can we find your work?

I’m currently working on a supernatural novel. It has a working title of 1919. I’ve also done some work on the follow up to Tabnit Gisgo. It’s called Tabnit Under Siege.

Just to throw something fun out there…If your book became a movie, what would the opening song be?

This Charming Man by The Smiths

Here presented for the first time in print- unchanged and, more importantly,
uncensored- are the memoirs of Tabnit Gisgo: spy, informer and occasional
purveyor of fine wine and figs to the gentry of Athens.

His astonishing
recollection of skulduggery, dissembling and lust takes him from the death
chamber of Alexander the Great in Babylon to the banks of the River Nile, where
a desperate battle takes place that will decide the future of the ancient world…

Oh, and as well as encountering the Great Conqueror himself, in all his
power-crazed glory, (along with the voluptuous temple priestess of Nimip, a
murderous Macedonian general who wants his blood and one enormous elephant) our
scribe also reveals his disgraceful role in the greatest whodunnit of the
age.

Tabnit Gisgo: Everything in excess.
