“I was born in Guisborough, North Yorkshire in 1987 and have lived in various places around Britain, including Newcastle and Glasgow. My writing is inspired by various writers, including the vivid characters of Charles Dickens, the imagination of Stephen King, and the gothic imagery of Anne Rice.”
Oh, are you all in for a treat today! My good friend, who just happens to be a writer too, is launching a new book today and took some time out of her crazy Book Release Internet Tour to stop by and do an interview for us! 🙂 So…grab an extra pillow and get comfortable…Miranda is ours (well, for at least a few minutes)!
Miranda! Thank you so much for joining us today, and congrats on the new book! Can you tell us more about it?
‘Erin’ is my newest novel, and is the sequel to ‘Conner’. It continues the story on from Conner, following Erin as we now see her in her new life. I don’t want to give too much away for people who haven’t read ‘Conner’, but let’s just say that the revelation at the end of ‘Conner’ leads into a war in ‘Erin’. There will be more horror, more sex, and 67% more snark.
I. Cannot. Wait. Super happy for you! Inquiring minds want to know…could you share your writing process with us?
NO! Nah, I’m kidding. I’m not sure I actually have a good writing process, but it works for me. I tend to have an idea, and make a few notes on it. I never really plan everything, per se, but I do know where the major conflicts and plot points should pop up. I’m definitely a ‘pantster’ writer, I like to see where the story will take me. Sometimes I write something, read it back a few days later, and can’t even understand how I wrote it. Which means it’s either working, or I have another personality. Take your pick. 😀
Hmm. A ‘panster’ writer. I fit into this category as well. lol Where does the inspiration for your writing come from?
All kinds of things. Mainly people though, and one of my favourite things to do is people-watch. And yes, it freaks people out. But it is for art! So a necessary evil. A lot of my inspiration also comes from places; most of my novels so far are set in places I’ve actually been, and the memory of that place sometimes suggests a story to me. I’ve always had an interest in the paranormal as well, so I guess it fascinates me enough that strange stories pop up in my head!
There’s no shame in people-watching…as long as you don’t invest in binoculars. (No judgment if you do) So, if you could be one of your characters for a day, who would you choose and why?
Oooh, tough question…but I think it would have to be Erin herself. She is (at least physically, and with snark) based a little on me, but there the similarities end. She is like a super-duper version of me, and it would be awesome to spend a day as her. Especially in ‘Erin’. She is EPIC.
And if Erin became a movie, what would the opening song be?
I love this question! I have actually thought about this a couple of times, so I’m glad someone asked. It would be a toss-up between Disturbed’s ‘The Animal’, or possibly ‘Bring Me To Life’ by Evanescence.
I pick Evanescene! Now we all know writing is a 24/7 job but how do you pass the time when you aren’t writing?
We can have spare time in between writing??? I’m only kidding, I like to do a few things; cooking is a big passion of mine, as is painting. I do both digital realism and abstract oils, and it can be a nice break from writing while still being creative. I also enjoy a lot of sports, including swimming, karate, and tennis- although I’m not very good at tennis! 😀
*Note to self – don’t mess with Miranda or she will Karate-chop me*
Do you have any advice for budding writers?
Keep writing! That is the most important thing. Lots of people think we sit around waiting for the ‘muse’ to show up, but it really isn’t like that at all. Or if it is, someone needs to let me know, because I missed that memo. Always make time in your day, every day, to write. Even if you write total rubbish, and only had half an hour to do it in, it will become routine as your writing improves. Treating it as a job, rather than a hobby, is what sorts the writers from the would-be writers. And read! Stephen King’s saying is true, ‘If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have time to write.’
Nah, you didn’t miss the memo. Or…maybe we both did. lol So, what can we expect to see from you in the future?
Ooh, lots of things! I’m currently working on my new series, ‘Scarlet Rain’, in which it will kick off with a ‘shadow-demon’, and add lots of other creatures as well! I’m also trying to find time to fit in a few comedic pieces, and of course I’m writing up my ‘Bassinville Witches’ series for the next ten months.
Yes! Hopefully we will see something with ‘cats’ in the future! 😉 If you could shadow your favorite Author for a year (living or dead) who would you choose and why?
Definitely, definitely, Charles Dickens. He is my favourite author of all time, and I imagine it would be amazing to spend even a day learning about his writing and his inspiration, never mind a year!
Excellent choice! That would be one very awesome year. Miranda, where can we find your work?
You can find my print books on Amazon and all good bookstores, and you can find my ebooks on amazon and Smashwords.
And now it’s time for our Rapid-Fire Questions!!
Chocolate or Wine?
Beach or Pool?
Cats or Dogs?
Toughie, as I’ve had both…but right now I only have my little cat, so cats.
eReader or Paperback?
While I love e-books for lots of reasons, nothing will ever beat the smell and feel of a paperback.
Folding Laundry or Cleaning the Cat-box?
Ugh! Folding laundry please!
Delivery or Take-Out
Take-out. I’m not lazy to walk there, just too lazy to not cook it.
Heels or Flats?
Heels! Every time!
Jeans or Dresses?
Hmmm…..it would have to be my jeans, as I love them, but still glammed up with my heels.
Awesome interview, Miranda!! I do hope you enjoy your interview rounds today, and wish you the best with your new book release!! You can find Miranda on her Website, and on her Author page with Amazon . Keep reading for more info about Erin…the anticipated sequel to Conner.
Filtiarn has taken over Conner’s body once more, and is relishing being in control. Cruel and sensual, he decides to work on a plan…to take over humanity. He begins a war…of werewolves against humans. But unknown to him, Conner is fighting against him within his own body, to set things right, and to bring Erin back from her own darkness. He tries to undo a great mistake from long ago, using Erin’s famed sword, Sioctine, as remnants of his own memory come back to him, opening up the present he now lives in.
At the same time, another enemy is using the situation to their advantage, following the werewolves at every turn, threatening to undo everything that Conner is struggling to obtain…
But will he be able to bring Erin back from Filtiarn’s grasp, or is it too late? And will he be able to stop the war against the humans progressing?
And who is threatening to take over not only the humans, but the werewolves as well?
