Author Gemma K. Murray is here today!

Thanks for being here today, Gemma! Everyone sit back and relax, take a moment to grab some coffee before we get started! 😀

A little about Gemma:

I was born and raised in a small town in lower Michigan. A farmer’s daughter, my greatest ambitions were to become a large animal vet and to read every book ever written. The veterinarian dream fell by the wayside, but I’m still working on reading every book I can get my hot little hands on.

But I’m a dreamer…I love to sit and look out the windows, daydreaming about what could be. I love getting tangled in my dreams when I fall asleep at night. That is how Keeper of the Golden Dragon’s Heart came to be. It started with a dream and spun into something beautiful.

Hi Gemma! Please tell us more about your latest book!

Keeper of the Golden Dragon’s Heart is set in the U.P. of Michigan. Cedar River is a community of shifters. We have everything from dragons to wolves to otters and fischers. Bowie is a golden dragon shifter and sheriff of the town. Ana is a puma shifter/witch. Their story is a complicated one. When Ana’s parents died, Bowie’s parents took Ana in and raised her. So, Ana has known the Golden boys her entire life. She’s always thought of the three younger ones as brothers. Bowie was always a little different. He was more of her protector than the others. Falling in love was not something either one had considered. Trouble finds its way to Cedar River and puts everyone in jeopardy, but sometimes you just have to believe.

Wow, sounds like a fascinating read! You’ve said on your Author bio that you were raised on a farm, and love to daydream. Can you tell us a bit about your childhood or some of your favorite daydream experiences?

It was a family run farm so everyone had to pitch in to help. I had a great childhood.

One of my favorite things to do was to gather a small bag with lemonade, a sandwich, a book, and a blanket. I’d wander through the pastures to the creek. I’d settle down on the bank under a giant willow tree and while away the afternoon. When Dad came back to bring the cows in, he and I would walk back and talk about all sorts of things.

That’s an awesome childhood to have experienced. 🙂 What has been the most difficult scene for you to write for your current project?

Believe it or not, it was Bowie and Ana’s first kiss. I kept thinking “Readers are going to think this relationship is incestuous.” I kept hearing Bowie’s voice in my head saying, “Just write it. It will make sense, but you have to trust me.” I did and the story just flowed from my fingertips.

Do you follow a certain writing process with your work?

Not really. I simply put in my earbuds and write. I’m a pantser so flying by the seat of my pants is the only way I know how.

You love to read, can you share with us what the last five books you read were?

I’m working on Book 3 in the Cedar River series so I just re-read Keeper of the Golden Dragon’s Heart. Stygian’s Honor by Lora Leigh, Her Mad Hatter by Marie Hall, A Dance with Bogie and Bacall by KevaD, The Starlight Key Episodes by Samantha Lucas.

If you could choose any Author, living or dead, to shadow for a year, who would you choose and why?

There are so many, but I think I’d go with Nora Roberts. Her career is so inspiring and she is one of my favorite authors. I always tell people “When I grow up, I want to be Nora.”

Awww – great choice! What has been the most rewarding part of your writing journey so far?

Seeing my first book published and watching the series take on a life of its own have been the best part. I’ve watched two new series begin to spin off from this series and I cannot imagine where this whole thing will end up.

Do you have any advice for budding authors?

Write! Write every single day of your life. It doesn’t matter whether it’s 5 words or 5,000 words. Write. And when you finish the book, believe! Believe in yourself. Believe in your book. Believe you will make it.

Great advice! What can we expect to see from you in the future and where can we find your work?

Word has it that Natural Born Enemies- Book 2 in the Cedar River series will be out late this fall. I’m currently working on the third book, the first book in a new series, a young adult book, a few contemporary romances, plus I’m fleshing out the premise for a third series.

You can find my books at Leap of Faith Publishing, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Coffee Time Romance’s e-bookstore.

If your book became a movie, what would the opening song be?

Okay, first off can I just say, “How cool”? I think it would have to be “The Story” by Brandi Carlile. For some reason, that is the song that jumped off the playlist when I scanned over it. (I make a playlist for each book.)

I also make up a new playlist for each book. LOL So…now it’s time for our Rapid Fire Questions! Are you ready??

White Chocolate or Dark Chocolate? I have a girlfriend who I’m going to get a good teasing from, but I LOVE white chocolate. (She tells me white chocolate is delusional in thinking it’s really chocolate.)

In-home Dining or Restaurant? In-home because it’s cheaper

Tent or Hotel? Oh goodness, HOTEL! I spent too many summer nights camping in tents when I was a kid.

Beach or Pool? Either one works for me. As long as I can be in the water.

Shower or Bath? Shower

eReader or Paperback? Paperback

Heels or Flats? Heels when I can, otherwise, it’s tennis shoes all the time.

Bra or No Bra? Bra

Keeper of the Golden Dragon’s Heart

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan seems like it is another country. The rawness and beauty of the land draws people from every walk of life. What most people don’t realize is there is a little town nestled on the banks of Lake Superior that an entire group of supernatural beings call home. Shifters of every shape and size live there. They raise their families there. Tourists come from near and far to visit the quaint town of Cedar River, Michigan. The tourists never realize they are walking among some of the most unusual beings on earth.

Bowie Golden is a dragon shifter who is in charge of Cedar River’s safety. Until now, the biggest threat to anyone’s safety was Anastasia Plum, a witch/puma-shifter. She has been the town hellraiser since she was a teenager. Now someone has discovered the secret the residents of Cedar River keep for one another. These radicals are determined to eradicate the entire town. It’s up to Bowie to keep them all safe.

Ana has always idolized Bowie. She may have stirred up trouble from time to time, but Bowie or one of his brothers would always get her out of the trouble she was in. One day, it happened. The unthinkable, the unimaginable occurred. Anastasia Plum fell for the “golden” boy. What an unlikely duo- the sheriff and the hellraiser!

Just as these two discover their passion for one another, a group of people is determined to keep them apart. It’s up to Ana to prove that she is the only Keeper of the Golden Dragon’s Heart.

Thank you Gemma for joining us today – I wish you and your books the best!! 😀 Happy reading, everyone!
