Interview with Hutch & A’ris!

Well, it’s Friday – finally! And like promised, I have the stars from The Dry Lands here today for an interview. Everyone, meet the rugged Krane Hutch and our heroine, A’rissandra Brynx! While you settle in with your eBook copy of TDL with a cup of coffee, or something a bit stronger, I’ll get Hutch and A’ris situated in their seats.

469925ce1cef18560ef8bae49830fc6edc83d1beca133a254a16fc89fd047883*fluffs sofa pillows…arranges water cups…dusts off keyboard* Ready?

TMD: So, I’ll start with A’ris. Ladies first. *wink*

KH: Are you sure she’s a lady? *ducks from flying pillow hurled by a flushed-faced A’ris*

TMD: Fine, I’ll start with you, Hutch.

AB: She did say ladies first. *giggles*

TMD: *clears throat* Okay…Hutch. I think readers would like to know more about your little tryst on the Worker ship that got you tossed, quite literally, onto the Dry Lands.

AB: *giggles stop* Yeah, Hutch. Tell us about your tryst.

KH: *smiles sweetly* I have a way with the ladies. Let’s just say it was an experience I’ll never forget.

AB: *mumbles something under her breath*

TMD: What was that, A’ris?

AB: *lifts chin and straightens shoulders* Of course he won’t forget it. He was thrown out of a hovering ship to the ground where he broke most of the bones in his body…all because he couldn’t keep his pants on.

KH: Who said I took my pants off?

AB: *gasps* You’re horrible!

TMD: If I didn’t know better, I’d say you’re trying not to laugh, A’ris.

AB: I am not! *clamps hand over mouth*

KH: *leans over to poke A’ris in the ribs* She’s a really bad liar, can’t you tell.

TMD: And you consider yourself a trust-worthy person, Hutch?

*the room falls under an awkward silence*

AB: Are you going to answer that, Hutch?

KH: *pauses* Well. I’d say I’m a good man who has done more than a few not so great things. Some…bad things, actually. Would I call myself trust-worthy? I don’t know.

AB: *rolls her eyes* Of course you are. *looks at me* He is. Though he’s made some mistakes. But haven’t we all?

TMD: Yes. We have. *clears throat* A’ris, can you tell us more about your relationship with your father? Why are the two of you so estranged?

AB: *sighs* I had a feeling you would ask about him.

TMD: *smiles* That is my job.

AB: *laughs hollowly* Yes, it is. Well. What can I say about my father? He’s a bastard. A selfish man that wants nothing but his own pleasure. And now that I know he’s kept our planet poor and destitute on purpose, it makes me hate him more.

TMD: Did something happen between the two of you that brought those feelings to the surface?

AB: *squirms uncomfortably* I can’t talk about…that. Not yet.

TMD: Okay. Moving on.

KH: Yes, lets. You’ve made the girl uneasy.

TMD: And you are quite protective of ‘the girl’, aren’t you?

KH: *smiles* I have my moments.

TMD: Hutch. Would you say you’ve changed, since meeting A’ris?

*watches as color begins flushing his neck*

KH: Sure, haven’t we all?

AB: *playfully slaps Hutch’s leg* Behave.

KH: I am. This is me – behaving.

TMD: What about you, A’ris? Have you changed?

AB: *leans back and stares up at the ceiling beams* Oh, yes. I’d say everything has changed. In good ways and bad. But meeting Hutch has been a surprise.

KH: A happy one?

AB: Can’t you be serious for one minute, Hutch?

KH: I am being serious. I can’t drive you crazy all the time, can I?

TMD: Sure you can. I think you drive each other crazy in equal amounts. It’s what makes your relationship work. Or am I wrong?

AB: No, you are not. Next question?

TMD: Just one left. *shuffles papers* A’ris, TDL ends on quite a cliff-hanger. Can you give us any insight into what happens next?

AB: *chews lower lip* Hmmm. If I could tell the future, you’d bet I’d want that question answered above all others.

TMD: So, nothing? No tid-bits?

KH: The Princess gets to use a gun, right? Tell me, she does. Because I really want to see that. *ducks as A’ris lifts another pillow* What? Not every girl can pull off that look, and you do it nicely. *takes a face-full of pillow with a laugh*

AB: I apologize for his brutish behavior. He’s not been properly trained. *swallows a laugh* But he’s right. I wear a gun rather well.

Hayden interviews/interrogates Slater and Jess (SPOILER ALERT!)

Hayden paced through Slater’s living room. Things had finally settled down after weak excuse for an alpha screwed up and shot Jess.

For a moment Hayden though Slater was going to lose it and shred Gregory who was a pathetic excuse for an alpha. There were a few things he didn’t understand.

“Seriously, Hayden, stop pacing and ask your damned questions,” Jess demanded.

He turned toward her. She was now standing with her hands on her hips, glaring up at him. He almost smiled. “How the hell is Gregory still an enforcer? He was a sniveling mess.”

“He’s nasty in a fight. He hasn’t lost one yet.” Jess slumped onto the couch next to Slater who slung his arm around her.

“Really?” Slater asked quietly. “He can actually fight?”

She smirked as her gaze swung to her mate. “San Francisco doesn’t have a lot of strong wolves. Not like you do here. There were a few who probably could have challenged him and won, but they never did.”

“San Francisco doesn’t have a lot of dominant wolves.” Slater shook his head. “How did you manage to stay there so long?”

She shrugged. “Jamie is there. I stayed until I couldn’t stand it.”

“Your twin?” Hayden asked, his head tilting to the side. He only knew she was an empath and that she didn’t seem to get into as much trouble as Jess.

Her gaze snapped to him. “Yeah, my twin.”

He just nodded and changed the subject. “What did Lincoln do after you were shot, before you left?”

She took a deep breath. “Healed me.”

“Not sure.” Her eyes narrowed. “Do I look like a healer?”

“No. Do you know what he is?” Hayden tried for a neutral tone and failed because her eyes flared in response. He had never felt Lincoln’s brand of magic before. Of course he was curious what the young man was. He had a way of calming most situations without much action. Just his presence seemed to make most people relax..

“Does it matter? I told him I wouldn’t say a word, and I won’t.”

Hayden’s eyes went wide. She knew? She wouldn’t tell him but she knew? Lincoln never told anyone, and so far he hadn’t had a reason to force the issue. “And if I asked Slater to command you to tell me? I may need to know someday.”

She shot to her feet and jabbed him in the chest. “I won’t say a damned word, and I’m pretty sure Slater’s smart enough not to force the issue.”

“She’s right.” The air vibrated with the Alpha’s growling tone. “I won’t. I advise you to back off my mate.”

“And Victoria,” his eyes narrowed in Slater’s direction. “Why did you let her drink from Jess?”

“I trust her,” he answered simply.

Hayden knew her secrets, but he didn’t think Jess knew. “Are you sure wolf blood won’t cause her problems in the near future? She’s been off Others’ blood for decades.”

Slater sighed heavily and Jess frowned as she turned to look at him.

“Was she addicted to our blood in the past?” she asked quietly.

Slater brushed her hair over her ear. “It’s not my story to tell. Trust me though, she’s not going to come back to drain you. She only drank from you to pull the silver out. She didn’t want me to lose you.”

Apparently, that was all Jess needed to hear because she nodded. “Okay.” She turned back to Hayden. “Well? What else?”

“Since neither of you are being terribly forthcoming, that’s all for now.” One day, he’d figure out what the hell happened and what Lincoln was and what drove Liam to lose his shit like he did. In fact, his next stop was Liam’s to see what he could find.

Insight into ‘Welcome to the Family’ character, Angela Smith

We have the author of ‘Welcome to the Family’, Caroline Levy with us today! Thanks for being here, Caroline! So excited to have you back on the blog! I’d like to pick your brain a bit about your Angela Smith…

Hi Trish, It’s good to be here. Good choice Angela is a wonderful character.

Angela’s past is probably a tough subject for her, but if she could change anything about her childhood – what would it be?

I most defiantly think it would be to grow up knowing her parents, no matter how dysfunctional it would have been.

True – I agree. Not knowing your parents would effect your whole life. When Angela was ten years old, what did she want to be when she ‘grew up’?

Angela was a real rebel even by the age of ten, she was making her escape from the foster homes she stayed at. She had thoughts of running away with the circus and learning to ride the horses.

I love that! If Angela could change places with any of her coworkers, and be them for one day, who would she choose and why?

She admires Megan Ardent. The way she conducts herself, how smart she is. Plus how she manages to glide around the office wearing killer heels all night. She hopes to be as glamorous and efficient one day.

Hmmm…there’s something about that woman that makes me suspicious. Can any woman be that put together all the time?? lol Can you tell us what might happen in Angela’s worst nightmare?

Angela has managed to get herself a little place and a job. She feels life is actually going well. The worst thing that could happen is for all of that to fall apart.

Stability. I get it. So, I have to ask, why does Angela not see herself as an attractive woman?

Looking at the other women she works with, all she see’s is them dressed in high end fashion, with not a hair out of place, make-up perfect and figures that make her feel like a little girl. She has no idea that when she walks past it’s her that is turning heads.

So it’s just an insecurity with something different. Well, she’s part of the family now! If Angela could live anywhere in the world, with anyone from ‘Welcome to the Family’ by her side, where would she go and with whom?

Hmm with who is a difficult one, she has come to care for quite a few people in her life. But not met that someone special yet… She needs to get used to being herself, before she even thinks about a relationship. I think she is happy at the towers for now.  It’s the only real home she has ever known, and I think she will fight to keep it.

Tell us about the craziest thing Angela would have done in her teen years.

Angela has pulled some stunts to get away from her foster careers. I wouldn’t call it crazy, outright dangerous… she wouldn’t think twice about hitchhiking to get to where she wanted to go.

Can we have a hint about what is to come for Angela?

Angela has a lot of training to do if she wants to follow in her mother’s footsteps. She has to prove she can, not just herself but the whole vampire community as well. There may be that certain someone special but she is still very young. Will have to wait and see what happens in Protecting the family.

I can’t wait! So Caroline, this question is for you – where did you get the ideas behind your characters in ‘Welcome to the Family’?

Angela was the first to come to me, she didn’t like being a character in a very short story. She had a much bigger story to tell and wouldn’t let up until I told it. The other guy’s seem to have met us along the way. It’s hard to describe, we just met them along the way. They all come with their own unique traits, and I can even picture what they look like. And yes finding the pictures to match was particularly fun *cheesy grin* Jack was very persistent, he found Angela irresistible, almost wanted to eat her at times lol. As for Roger, the day she walked into him he knew she was his to protect. There are so many wonderful characters in welcome to the family. I could go on for ages, but I am biased, they are now my friends. If that sounds crazy then so be it lol.

I love it when our characters take over and set up camp. LOL What can we expect to see next from you?

I am currently working on Nikki’s Revenge. It’s a paranormal novel, involving Werewolves. Some of them are extremely hot, and others are quite despicable.  Hopefully this will be published in the late summer. Protecting the family should be following, and be out in time for Christmas. There will be other novels next year as well. I am now so hooked on my writing, I get withdrawal, and I see it as a good addiction though.  If I take a little me time, my characters give me quite a bit of grief lol. You will never find me without my notepad and tablet. It’s the best way to keep the peace.

Yay! I’m sure it will be fabulous!!

Thank you for having us over for a chat, I hope you like Welcome to the family as much as I loved writing it xx

Lucius Speaks! Tara Wood’s Characters Stop By for a Chat!

Tara Wood and Lorecia Goings have brought us Lucius (The Fallen)

via Moon Rose Publishing

Now, as a super fantastic treat, Tara shares her characters with the Blog today! You can’t miss this one…

Tara, you know I love your work. Thank you for sharing the world of Lucius with us today. Now you sit back and relax, grab a coffee, put your feet up, and let me do the rest of the work. Mwah!

Give me just a second to rearrange my furniture a bit so everyone fits *glances nervously at all the hawt men sitting in the living room – draped across the sofas and chairs like throw blankets* – Domniel, Jude, Mordecai, Elijah…Lucius – everyone ready? *All smiles and nods from the men*

Let’s just jump into the questions, shall we? I know Tara and Lorecia have you all on a busy schedule these days. *laughter* So, every character on the page and off needs flaws – that’s what makes them stand out from the rest. But most of the characters in Lucius are physically flawed in some unique ways. Who would you consider to be the most flawed – emotionally?

L: *wry smirk* Anybody care to put out there how you’re screwed in the head?

*soft murmurs and furtive glances to the floor*

L: Okaaay… *laughs* I guess I’ll start. I think I can speak for all of us when I say that the fall wreaked havoc on us emotionally as well as physically. I came out the least unscathed, I suppose, since there’s nothing really physically wrong with me. But what I feel goes so deep, sometimes that turmoil is physically painful. I had a hard time relaxing. I always felt that I had to fight, that I had to do something. The sense of urgency was crippling.

*nods from the rest of the angels*

J: I don’t like to be touched.

D: *ugly snort* Understatement of the century, dude.

J: *shrugs it off* It fucking hurts. Pain is the only way my body reacts to touch. It’s okay, though. I’m dealing.

D: *snorts again* If you say so.

*awkward silence*

L: I don’t know that one of us is more broken than the other. We all had our part to play in how we got here, and the physical punishments are manifestations of the consequences of those actions. There is an emotional tie to the physical. They’re connected. And it’s something we’ve never really discussed amongst ourselves. *goes quiet* It’s sort of like living it all over again.  Losing Heaven wrecked us in different ways. All of them painful.

If the pain between you is equal, surely who you see as a leader isn’t? Is there anyone of the group that stands out as the ‘leader’?

J, D, M, E: *in unison* Lucius.

E: *signing* It’s always been Lucius.

I’ve got to say I figured as much. There’s a certain air of…respect…around Lucius. So, at the end of the day (or night) when things calms down for you all…how do you like to relax?

D: Wild Turkey and hookers.

M: *rolls eyes* Lige and  I read a lot.

D: That’s all you do. You’re boring as shit.

E: *flips Domniel his middle finger* *group laughs*

J: *smiles* I’ll take the Turkey. No hookers.

L: I’m beginning to enjoy quiet evenings in with Persephone.

*loud, agonizing groan from group*

L: What? There’s more to life than drinking and getting laid.

J: That’s real nice, boss. When you find out what that is, you let us know.

Awwww, Lucius just won points with his love, that’s for sure! Who has the kinkiest sex fantasy of the group? Yes, you must share it with us.

D: I might have imagined my own harem once. All those nubile female bodies so eager to please. Then again, maybe that’s Tuesday.

L: Dom….

D: What? Hey, I kept it clean. You’ll notice the big guy over there hasn’t piped up. *points to Jude* That motherfucker over there’s probably into whips and chains and shit. And the Wonder Twins are a set. Nobody seems to want to talk about that. *jerks head toward Mordecai and Elijah* How many chicks have you seen come between them?

L: Dom…

D: *flashes bright grin* I mean, compared to you guys, I’m the only normal one in the bunch. I just happen to indulge a lot more often than the rest of you. I can’t help it the ladies find me exotic and hot. It’s the hair. Chicks dig my hair.

*Eyes Jude, Mordecai and Elijah with interest but moves on after being ignored* Gentlemen, if any of you could reverse your roles in Lucius (The Fallen), who would want a change – and why?

J: *eyes downcast* I would rather be any one of you than myself. I wouldn’t wish this on anybody.

M: I think I would trade with Lige. *pats Elijah on the shoulder* So I would know what’s it’s like to be the other part of me.

E: *smiles at Mordecai* *signs for Lucius to translate* Agreed. I would love to switch with Cai. At least then I wouldn’t have to listen to all the shit that falls out of Dom’s mouth.

*Laughs* Jude, I’m hugging you in my mind, love. Staying on topic (sorta) – Can you tell us what your meaning of ‘Love’ is, and have you ever been in love?

D: A soft, warm, willing female body. I love that.

*Elijah and Mordecai snort loudly* *Jude and Lucius roll eyes*

L: I think love is different for all of us. I found Persephone. She has a good heart and a beautiful smile. And I love the way she makes me feel. She makes me a better man. That’s love.

If love really does conquer all, what challenges have you overcome in the name of love?

L: *grins* Killed some demons, got my wings back.

*group applauds*

*Claps wildly, then composes self* So, describe your definition of ‘true love’ for us…

L: Persephone.

J: Something that is all-encompassing, that stops your heart, that makes you feel like you can’t breathe. Something that lasts forever.

E: *nods in agreement* *gives a thumbs up*

M: The sound of laughter. *Elijah smiles and nudges his shoulder*

D: *sniffs* Doesn’t exist. It’s a fairytale for chicks.

*group shoots Domniel a sad look*

*Jots down notes to ask Dom more about this at a later time* On the flip-side of love is hate. Tell us more about your relationship with Lucifer.

L: *glares* Next question.

Ok. If you could spend five minutes alone in a room with Lucifer, but you could not touch each other, what would you say to him?

D: *lowers voice to menacing* I believe the man said next question. Let’s move on, shall we?

Point taken. Moving on. *wiggles uncomfortably in chair* Tell us more about what’s in store for all of you.

L: *with conviction* Doesn’t matter. It’s in His hands. Whatever path he puts forth, we will follow. We serve Him.

*group nods with sober expressions*

I think I hear Tara calling for your return. She’s done sharing you, I’m afraid. Thank you all for joining us today and sharing a little bit more about you. I know I don’t speak only for myself when I say that I can’t WAIT to see what happens to you next! Much love to you all! *Stands and hugs the men one by one, except for Jude*

Can’t wait to read more about these characters?

Happy Reading!!!

Meet Elle J. Rossi’s ‘Keller O’Leary’ from Crimson Beat!

Moon Rose Publishing has just released their newest book, A CELTIC TAPESTRY!

An anthology between eight authors, each one has taken their own twist on one of the Celtic festivals of the year. From sunny spring to chilly winter, everyone’s favourite season is given a fresh and enticing take in this wonderful collection. To celebrate, Moon Rose Publishing is also hosting a fabulous giveaway as part of the release!

The wheel of the year turns, bringing the joy of spring, the warmth of summer, the richness of autumn, and the merriment of winter. But eight Celtic festivals link these seasons together, bringing with them romance, lust, danger, and even magic. From a city under threat from night-time creatures at Ostara, to a selkie caught by the light of the Lughnasadh moon, to a writer caught in the flames of a fiery goddess at Imbolc. Eight authors have come together to give their own twist on these festivals, weaving each story with a blend of myth, magic, and contemporary telling…to create A Celtic Tapestry.

Excerpt from Crimson Beat by Elle J Rossi

Somebody is going to die tonight.

“Oh, lucky me. It’s Josie. I see you’ve joined the living.”

I stop and squint into the dark interior of Wolfie’s, where I tend bar five nights a week and sometimes on Sunday. Annoyance wraps its prickly arms around me, instantly changing my mood from thoughtful to combative. Perhaps the cocky bartender has a death wish. So what if I’m a little late tonight and didn’t show up for work last night? I don’t have to explain my reasons or whereabouts to this knob. At least I’m here now. Sore, but here. As for the living part, I can’t really claim to be completely alive—not in the human sense of the word—but no chance will I be sharing that bit of juice with the tool behind the bar. The less he knows the better. Same goes for most of the general population.

Ignorance is bliss. Especially this time of year. Ostara—the Spring Equinox—is one of only two times a year when light equals dark. When the secluded lore creatures come out of hiding to wreak havoc on the innocent. When daywalkers and nightwalkers co-exist for a full twenty-four hours. A recipe for disaster, also known as: My Busiest Season.

Even now, I’m scanning the crowd, alert and ready to protect. Humans are so unassuming, so blasé when it comes to their safety. In their defense, they don’t know what lurks around the dark corners at night. I do, and it isn’t pretty.

I’m Josie Hawk.

I’m a killer. Literally. Technically I’m classified as a Huntress (even though I’m only a half-breed), but the ultimate outcome of any given hunt is death. Be it by hand or weapon—I prefer blades with blinged-out handles. It isn’t easy, but it’s who I am. My father taught me how to hunt and how to live. My mother, God rest her soul, taught me how to love fiercely. But then she died and took most of that love with her. The fierce part I kept though. I hold it close, like a baby clutches a blanket, security in the purest sense. If I’m fierce, I’m alive. If I’m alive, I can hunt. And if I can hunt, I can protect the people of my city.

To most, I’m just another bartender in another bar. Friendly enough, even if a little off with my over the top opinions and fashion choices. I don’t mind being off. I suppose some killers might prefer to blend, become part of the scenery. Not me. I prefer to be the brightest flower in the bunch. The red rose stashed in a white bouquet. The lone neon sign on the dark street.

As I sashay by in my zombie stompers and ripped fishnets, I try hard not to limp from my recently injured ankle, because let’s face it, limping totally ruins the whole sashay effect.

But I can’t be that flashy all the time. Not when I’m hunting. The time between last call and dawn, I become part of the shadows, part of the night. I spend so many hours there, it’s no wonder I prefer the spotlight in my off time.

Interview with Elle J. Rossi’s Keller O’Leary, from Crimson Beat

Thanks for being here today, Keller. Sit back and relax and please do your best to keep your fangs to yourself…I have somewhere to be later and getting blood on my nice white top just won’t be acceptable. I do hope you understand.

It’s a pleasure to be here, Trish. Rest assured, I’m well fed these days.

It might bring up some tough feelings, but how did you become a vampire – who turned you?

Aye, uttering his name has the potential to summon him. Trust me, love, you don’t want him here. You’d never make it to your evening engagement.  What I can tell you is that my turning was intentional. Part of a bigger plan. I donnae know how many he’s sired over the years, but I know the time nears when he will call us to his side. We’re bound to go. It is a time I’m not looking forward to.

Exactly how old are you, Keller?

My human birth year was 1892. I was turned in 1919 at the onset of the Irish civil war. Let’s see. That makes me a mere 121 years old, which is fairly young for an immortal.

What is the biggest secret you hold close to your heart?

I cannae bear to lose Josie. She is my heart. She holds my soul. The time will come when we will both have to make a choice. I fear her answer will not be the same as mine.

Can you tell me the story about how you met the lovely Josie Hawk?

I have my sister to thank for that. Sage has a fondness for country music. Nashville is the perfect fit for her. She introduced me to Josie right after Josie stomped me with her combat boot and tried to stake me to the ground. Josie is fierce. Shall we say her blood sang to me? She didn’t quite see it that way. Still doesn’t, I’m sure. But I’m infectious. And persistent.

Where do you see your relationship with Josie going? You seem fated to be together, but life does happen…

Aye, we are fated. Deliciously so. Getting Josie to realize that is a daily struggle. One I enjoy, I might add. There are several ways to remind her that we’re better together than apart. My intention is to spend eternity with her. You say life happens. I’m more concerned with death. Hers. Perhaps we should change the subject.

So, you play in a band. What’s your favorite song to do?

We can blame Josie and Sage for this answer: Kerosene by Miranda Lambert. Mad drums in that tune.

Do you have any tattoos?

Actually, I don’t have any. I’m a little old fashioned in that way.

If you were offered a cure for vampirism, would you take it?

That would depend entirely on Josie and what the future holds for us. I will not stand idle and watch her grow old while I remain unchanged. I cannae do that. I won’t.

Is sex any different as a vampire?

Aye. Very. Sex is exquisite. Every sound is amplified. Every whisper of a touch becomes utter eroticism. The taste…  The bite… It’s a bonding of souls when there is love between the partners. You become one and many and nothing and everything. Aye, very different.

If you had one wish to make, what would you wish for?

I wish to spend eternity with the only woman I have ever loved.
