Hi Kirstin! I have my coffee ready, it is steaming quite nicely…so while it cools off enough for me to drink it without scalding the tip of my tongue, I’ll introduce you to the readers!
Kirstin’s Bio: Kirstin Pulioff is a storyteller at heart. Born and raised in Southern California, she moved to the Pacific Northwest to follow her dreams and graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Forest Management. Happily married and a mother of two, she lives in North Plains, Oregon, and enjoys being a stay at home mom. When she’s not writing, she is busy with her kids, church and the family business.
Welcome to the blog Kirstin! Thanks for being here. 🙂
Thank you so much for having me here today. I am so excited to share my release day with you and your readers.
You are most welcome, it is a pleasure to have you here with us this morning! So Kirstin, have you always wanted to be an author?
Yes, and no. I have always been a writer, and enjoyed doing it, but to be honest, I never really thought about it as a career option. Being a writer as a career was such an abstract idea to me… like being an actress or artist… a big dream, but I didn’t think I could achieve it. So, I focused on the traditional jobs and career options. It wasn’t until recently that I really began thinking of writing as a career, and focusing on the steps I needed to take to pursue that.
I’m very glad you did pursue it – can you tell us more about your latest project?
I would love to! Today is the official release of my middle grade fantasy book, “The Escape of Princess Madeline.”
Faced with an impending marriage, a knight champion, and a future that she did not choose or want, Princess Madeline finds herself in the middle of an impossible decision. Using her charm, strength and stubbornness, she defies the King, her father, at every turn, determined to keep her freedom on her terms. Follow Princess Madeline in this adventure full of twists and turns as she finds freedom and love.
“The Escape of Princess Madeline,” is a fairytale with aspects of magic, fantasy, and romance, with a positive tone and a quick pace.
I’m going to tell my daughter about this one! I’m sure she would love to read it! Can you share with us where the inspiration behind your writing comes from?
I wish I knew! Haha. For me, there are moments when I get a glimpse of a scene or a thought in my mind that I just need to write down. Those quick moments of inspiration stretch out as I write the outline and chapters. I wish I had more of a process, but for me, it truly is just sitting down with the intention of writing, and focusing on that goal.
Overall, I find reading to be a wonderful adventure for me. I love books where I can lose myself in the words and worlds that are created, and that is what I strive to achieve.
The best thing about being a writer, I think, is to remember what we love about what we read and being able to give OUR readers the same experiences. 🙂 So, tell us about your writing process, do you have a daily writing routine?
Oh boy. Here’s where I get in trouble… I don’t really have too much of a daily routine. My main job is being a 100% full-time focused mommy, but once bath time is done, and the bedtime stories are read, I am in my closet writing. During the week, I get a couple hours a night to focus on writing, promoting or editing. On the weekends, I have more of an opportunity to write. I leave the house for a few hours, while my husband watches the kids, and I find a nice spot to write.
So, what do you like to do when you aren’t writing?
Sleep! Ok, seriously, when I’m not writing, I like to be doing something. I am an active person, and have two young kids. We are constantly running around somewhere, whether it’s school, activities, church, or playing outside, we are always on the go. I am a firm believer in living life, and I try to make each day special and memorable.
Sounds like a fun household! If you had an entire month to read uninterrupted, which books would you pick up and why?
That would be a dream come true. I would start by going through my favorites, “The Incarnations of Immortality Series” by Piers Anthony, Ken Follett’s “Pillars of the Earth,” and some new epic fantasies. I have found some great new books by fellow authors, Bobbie Shafer and Ally Shields. I love re-reading favorites as much as finding new ones. There is always something new to discover no matter how many times I read a story.
Okay. So I want feel bad admitting I re-read a lot of my King books. LOL If you opened up your own book store, what would you name it?
Oh, such a fun idea… Once Upon a Time.
Perfect name! Do you have any advice for writers interested in publishing?
You only live once, so make sure you live it the way you want to remember it. If writing is your dream, then it is up to you to make it happen. Keep writing, keep trying, and don’t give up.
Yes, I agree! 🙂 If you could shadow your favorite Author for a year (living or dead) who would you choose, and why?
Dr. Suess. He has been able to charm me with his words both as a child and as an adult. Whether tackling rhymes and green eggs, or challenging you to think and dream with the Lorax and the Places You Go, he writes with clear intent and a positive message. I would love to follow him and see if he is as fun in real life as he is in his books.
How fun would that year be, I mean…really? So, before we go…what can we expect to see from you in the future and where can we find your work, Kirstin?
