Insight into ‘Welcome to the Family’ character, Angela Smith

We have the author of ‘Welcome to the Family’, Caroline Levy with us today! Thanks for being here, Caroline! So excited to have you back on the blog! I’d like to pick your brain a bit about your Angela Smith…

Hi Trish, It’s good to be here. Good choice Angela is a wonderful character.

Angela’s past is probably a tough subject for her, but if she could change anything about her childhood – what would it be?

I most defiantly think it would be to grow up knowing her parents, no matter how dysfunctional it would have been.

True – I agree. Not knowing your parents would effect your whole life. When Angela was ten years old, what did she want to be when she ‘grew up’?

Angela was a real rebel even by the age of ten, she was making her escape from the foster homes she stayed at. She had thoughts of running away with the circus and learning to ride the horses.

I love that! If Angela could change places with any of her coworkers, and be them for one day, who would she choose and why?

She admires Megan Ardent. The way she conducts herself, how smart she is. Plus how she manages to glide around the office wearing killer heels all night. She hopes to be as glamorous and efficient one day.

Hmmm…there’s something about that woman that makes me suspicious. Can any woman be that put together all the time?? lol Can you tell us what might happen in Angela’s worst nightmare?

Angela has managed to get herself a little place and a job. She feels life is actually going well. The worst thing that could happen is for all of that to fall apart.

Stability. I get it. So, I have to ask, why does Angela not see herself as an attractive woman?

Looking at the other women she works with, all she see’s is them dressed in high end fashion, with not a hair out of place, make-up perfect and figures that make her feel like a little girl. She has no idea that when she walks past it’s her that is turning heads.

So it’s just an insecurity with something different. Well, she’s part of the family now! If Angela could live anywhere in the world, with anyone from ‘Welcome to the Family’ by her side, where would she go and with whom?

Hmm with who is a difficult one, she has come to care for quite a few people in her life. But not met that someone special yet… She needs to get used to being herself, before she even thinks about a relationship. I think she is happy at the towers for now.  It’s the only real home she has ever known, and I think she will fight to keep it.

Tell us about the craziest thing Angela would have done in her teen years.

Angela has pulled some stunts to get away from her foster careers. I wouldn’t call it crazy, outright dangerous… she wouldn’t think twice about hitchhiking to get to where she wanted to go.

Can we have a hint about what is to come for Angela?

Angela has a lot of training to do if she wants to follow in her mother’s footsteps. She has to prove she can, not just herself but the whole vampire community as well. There may be that certain someone special but she is still very young. Will have to wait and see what happens in Protecting the family.

I can’t wait! So Caroline, this question is for you – where did you get the ideas behind your characters in ‘Welcome to the Family’?

Angela was the first to come to me, she didn’t like being a character in a very short story. She had a much bigger story to tell and wouldn’t let up until I told it. The other guy’s seem to have met us along the way. It’s hard to describe, we just met them along the way. They all come with their own unique traits, and I can even picture what they look like. And yes finding the pictures to match was particularly fun *cheesy grin* Jack was very persistent, he found Angela irresistible, almost wanted to eat her at times lol. As for Roger, the day she walked into him he knew she was his to protect. There are so many wonderful characters in welcome to the family. I could go on for ages, but I am biased, they are now my friends. If that sounds crazy then so be it lol.

I love it when our characters take over and set up camp. LOL What can we expect to see next from you?

I am currently working on Nikki’s Revenge. It’s a paranormal novel, involving Werewolves. Some of them are extremely hot, and others are quite despicable.  Hopefully this will be published in the late summer. Protecting the family should be following, and be out in time for Christmas. There will be other novels next year as well. I am now so hooked on my writing, I get withdrawal, and I see it as a good addiction though.  If I take a little me time, my characters give me quite a bit of grief lol. You will never find me without my notepad and tablet. It’s the best way to keep the peace.

Yay! I’m sure it will be fabulous!!

Thank you for having us over for a chat, I hope you like Welcome to the family as much as I loved writing it xx

At only a few hours old, Angela is left on the steps of St Paul’s church. Alone in the world, the only link she has to her past is a pink blanket bearing an emblem with two crossed swords and a snake.

A troubled childhood spent in orphanages leads to Angela attempting to rebuild her shattered life as an adult. Meeting the priest who found her eighteen years previously, she gets a job and a boyfriend, and settles into her new life.

Until she meets Jack.

Drawn to her new boss, she throws herself into work, feeling an unusual bond with people she hasn’t known very long.

Angela becomes embroiled in this new life, feeling a change within herself. A change which isn’t altogether human. Within this change she finds a terrifying secret…a secret which involves her past, her present, and definitely her future…

Author Bio

Caroline F Levy

I was born in Chatham, Kent in 1970. I now live in Yorkshire with my daughter and our five mad cats.

My first memories of any book would have been my mother reading The Enormous Turnip. It must have driven her mad, as it was always our first choice when asked what we should read tonight.

I grew up with the classics; Little Women, The Railway Children, but it would have been The House That Died and Bluebeard that I remember wanting to read.

I can remember writing a verse for the school song, and being chosen as a winner for what was then 3rd year juniors. I stopped reading so much in my late teens to my mid twenties. Life seemed to always be too busy for that pile of books I so wanted to read. It was when I went into hospital to have my daughter, that I had time to read again–and thankfully I haven’t stopped since.

However, it wasn’t until my late twenties that I realised I wanted to write. I have spent a few years trying to complete an online creative writer’s course; without much success, but it led me to what I am writing now. So never give up if you really want to write!

I am very influenced by Fantasy fiction / Horror, most of the books I read are in this genre. I have many Authors I like to follow; Anne Rice was very influential in the beginning. I also discovered Laurel K Hamilton and many, many more. I could go on about different Authors I like to read. However, I will say that this year I have also discovered there are literally, well, probably thousands of very talented Indie Authors out there. And a very welcoming and friendly bunch they are too, but I digress–yes, I get very excited about the subject of books!

I have finished my first novel called Welcome To The Family, which will be published April 29th 2013. I also have other novels in the pipeline, Nikki’s Revenge and Protecting The Family, due out later in the year.
